The Louisiana State Archives will show the work of the Louisiana Endangered Cemetery Project with an exhibit open for visitors until March 31.
The exhibit contains cemetery research documented by Jessica H. Schexnayder with the Louisiana Sea Grant College Program at LSU and Mary H. Manhein with the LSU FACES Lab, according to a University release.
The Louisiana Endangered Cemetery Project was started in 2011 and works to preserve the state’s cemeteries through GPS mapping, photography and cultural artifact documentation.
The project includes cemeteries on the coast and further inland that are at stake because of coastal erosion, storm damage, neglect and sea level rise. So far 137 cemeteries have been documented , according to the projects website.
The Louisiana State Archives is located at 3851 Essen Lane and is open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Endangered Cemeteries Exhibit will run until the end of the month
