Are there things you wish our campus did to help keep our students away from danger? Well LSU has the chance to win a $200,000 grant that would go toward new security equipment and services.
The LSUPD applied for the Stanley Security Grant in hopes that it would make our campus safer and now it’s our job to make sure we win
“Grants make up a big portion of what we do and they can greatly help in promoting safety as well as assisting us in getting additional equipment or additional training or things of that nature,” said Cory Lalonde, Capt. LSU PD.
The grant is a contest that is determined by the highest number of votes. You can vote off the website or even by tweeting and texting.
You can text “LSUEDU” to 334455 or tweet using #STANLEYsecurity and the #LSUEDU. LSU is currently in fourth place which is making everyone push for it even more.
“LSU is a fairly safe school, but with any school there is room for improvement and the budget cuts that are being proposed right now are a little scary for the parents,” said LSU parent, Alison Hull.
After the armed robbery incident on LSU’s campus, LSU parents are wanting the grant more and more.
“I am voting 3 email addresses that I have personal and work and texting. You can also tweet. And I know several parents are pushing this. We have sent our fliers, we’ve reached out to the students as well,” LSU parent Alison Hull said.
“And I don’t know how she found it, but she found it. She started posting it all over the tiger band parents Facebook page, LSU parents page and she’s been blowing up our phones saying you should vote you should vote, you can do this vote this vote and we’re like ok mom we got it,” said LSU band members, Cierra Garcia and Emily Staniscewski.
LSUPD is not sure what we would do with the money if we did win, but we do have some options.
“All we heard about was alarms and cameras because we have cameras all over campus, but that definitely directly affects the students. I mean with cameras you have a more likey chance of solving a crime if it were to happen,” said LSU students, Nicole Bell and Bree Bergeron.
The contest ends February 13th so we only have a few days left to climb to first place.
