TOP TEN TIPS ON HOW TO BEAT SENIORITIS
This semester, many new seniors will be roaming LSU’s campus for one last year of hurrahs before basking in the life of adulthood. Being a senior comes with a lot of perks like taking less hours per semester and having bragging rights for surviving the grueling course load and college lifestyle. However, one of the biggest downfalls of being a senior is the omnipresent and overwhelming desire to do, well, absolutely nothing. This prolonged phase of laziness is called Senioritis, and it happens to the best of us. Here are the top ten ways to beat Senioritis:
1. Organize, Organize, Organize: A planner book is your friend. Grab one from the nearest book store and keep your class and work schedule in tip top shape along with due dates and extracurricular activities. The more organized you are, the less likely you are bound to get loss into the college abyss.
2. There’s an alarm clock on your phone for a reason: Use it. Give yourself enough time to get ready for class and try not to use the snooze button so often.
3. Eat Breakfast: This is the most important meal of the day. Your energy levels depend on this one meal and if you’re full and energized, you will be more alert and most likely to concentrate in class.
4. Make a Mantra: Keep a saying close by or make one up and repeat to yourself every morning and when things get hectic. Close your eyes, take a deep breath and say some encouraging words to yourself for a quick pick me up.
5. Hit the Gym: The best way to get over a funk or a case of the slugs is to sweat it off! Give yourself at least thirty minutes a day to get away from the laptop and get active. Whether it’s going out for a run or dancing in your room to your favorite playlist, a little movement will do the body (and mind) some good!
6. Get Together with Classmates: Trust me, you are not the only one experiencing senioritis. Most likely, the majority of the senior class has felt unmotivated at one point or another. Make sure to make some time to meet up with friends who are in the same boat as you and talk it out, you will be amazed at how comforting this could be.
7. Avoid Overthinking: There will be moments where you are tempted to think about life after college and the stress about keeping your grades up, perfecting your resume and finding a job by the time you walk across that stage. The process of overthinking these situations can be overwhelming and damaging in the long run. Try to stay focused on the present and take it all one day at a time.
8. Keep it Light: Avoid purposefully filling your schedule with so many obligations that you forget to breathe. Keep it light and keep it simple, that way you have a little quiet time for yourself.
9. Study Breaks: And speaking of keeping things light, don’t study for four hours straight. Take a break when studying or doing assignments with every hour. Go get a snack, listen to music or watch a little Netflix. Allowing your brain to relax and truly absorb the information is a lot better than a nonstop cram session.
10. Have Fun! This is your senior year, the end of some of the best years of your life. Enjoy it to the fullest and make every moment count. Cheer on the football team and hang out with your best friends, it’s your senior year and you deserve to enjoy it!
