The No. 23 LSU men’s basketball team outclassed the University of South Alabama in a 78-68 win Thursday night in its last prep before heading to Brooklyn, New York, to take on Marquette.
The Jaguars (1-2) couldn’t contain the LSU (3-0) freshman duo of forward Ben Simmons and guard Antonio Blakeney, who combined for 45 points.
Along with tallying a double-double with 23 points and 16 rebounds, Simmons continued to fill up the stat sheet with two steals and three assists, including a behind-the-back dish to sophomore center Elbert Robinson III in the first half.
Blakeney showcased his range, shooting 4-for-8 on the night from beyond the arch. He trailed only Simmons by a single point despite taking three less shots.
Senior guard Josh Gray and Robinson finished with 11 and 10 points, respectively, to cap off the Tigers’ double-digit scorers. Robinson left the game with a lower leg injury with 11:15 remaining in the second half.
Defensively, the Tigers held the Jaguars to shooting just 39 percent from the field.
