On Tuesday afternoon, the LSU Faculty Senate passed a resolution censuring University President and Chancellor Dr. F. King Alexander in regards to his dismissal of Associate Professor Teresa Buchanan.
The resolution followed a month long investigation by a faculty committee into the situation that led to Buchanan’s dismissal. The report detailed several circumstances in which Buchanan created a “hostile” learning environment and violated LSU Sexual Harassment policies.
The committee found fault with the process used to terminate Buchanan’s employment with LSU. The report cites a lack of due process, plus the failure of several members of the administration to communicate the gravity of the situation to Buchanan. This led to the censure of Dr. Alexander for the removal of Buchanan without just cause or due process.
The committee recommended that Buchanan be allowed to return to her position, but she will have to promise in writing that her practices will discontinue.
Dr. Alexander was recently given an extension of his contract by the LSU Board of Supervisors, the Faculty Senate will be forming a committee to review the contract and vote on wether or not to approve the extension.
