The episode opens with Annalise putting on makeup and being fabulous as usual.
The scene then cuts to her being questioned at the police station about her husband Sam and his connection to Lila’s murder. She of course lies about everything, because she can’t exactly tell the police that her law students murdered Sam, burned his body in a bonfire, chopped up the remains and dumped them. Annalise attempts to convince the police that Sam went on the run to avoid being turned in.
Meanwhile, the baby lawyers gang is freaking out. The most paranoid is Connor, who’s acting jumpy and neurotic and continuing his transformation into the Joker. Wes and Laurel remain pretty calm because they’re sociopaths, and Michaela is concerned about grades because she has priorities.
The gang is awaiting police questioning and standing outside of Annalise’s house, when she calls Wes to her office.
She reassures him, after he pleads with her to let him tell the gang, that she’s in on everything. She tells him she can’t and to do well at the police station so she can get Rebecca’s charges dropped. This reassurance continues as she caresses his face, adding to their weird sexual tension. He then gives her Sam’s wedding ring, which he saved before burning his body.
They all go to the courthouse and in comes D.A. Wendy Parks, determined to get Rebecca locked up for Lila’s murder. She confronts the gang and Annalise threatens to throw her out. She leaves because she knows Annalise doesn’t play around and tells them she’ll see them in court.
During Wes’ questioning at the police station, he lies as best as he can. He tells the police the last time he saw Sam was days ago, as a flashback shows him smashing Sam in the head with the trophy.
Annalise apologizes to Rebecca for not believing her about Sam, and Rebecca later tells Wes. Rebecca expresses her concern that Wes isn’t freaking out like he should be. After all, he kind of killed a guy.
Annalise meets her cop side piece in the car in the parking garage. He begins to question her about Sam. She does her best to convince him of her innocence and he seemingly believes her.
Laurel is then being questioned as flashbacks show Sam’s murder. She lies and claims Sam would look at her in a sexual way and make her uncomfortable.
Connor tells Michaela he thinks they should go to the police. He says the two of them can save themselves and pin the murder on Wes and Rebecca. The two also try to convince Laurel to join in with their plan.
Meanwhile, Bonnie goes into Annalise’s office and wants to talk about how they left things, with Bonnie crying and groveling at Annalise’s feet after she fired her. Annalise doesn’t want to talk about it though, and ends the conversation.
Frank and Annalise are out on the courthouse steps, where she opens an envelope with Lila’s DNA results. The results reveal that Sam was the father of her baby, which Annalise is ecstatic about. Frank is creeped out by Annalise’s happiness about her dead husband fathering his dead student’s baby, so he asks her to confide in him with what’s really going on. Annalise tells Frank that Bonnie can’t know what she’s about to tell him. The audience is never shown what Annalise tells Frank.
Annalise eventually gets Rebecca’s charges dropped because she’s the best lawyer in the game and a magician. After winning, Annalise goes into bathroom stall to take a breather.
In probably the best moment in the episode, while Annalise is in the stall, two women walk in and start discussing the case. They call Annalise an animal and heartless for trying to prove her own husband killed Lila in order to get Rebecca’s charges dropped.
Annalise, overhearing this, comes out of the stall and those women are shook. Annalise stares daggers at them, putting the fear of God into them and walks out of the bathroom.
Later, a flashback shows Laurel telling Wes about Connor and Michaela’s plan to confess and pin it on he and Rebecca. He then tells Annalise and she and Wes meet Connor, Michaela and Laurel at the police station to stop them from confessing.
Annalise gets through to them and they don’t confess.
The gang is back in class, with Annalise assigning them an analytical law essay that just so happens to parallel how they killed Sam, because why not?
In the final scene, Connor is at the police station after his questioning. He overhears a woman telling the police Sam didn’t kill Lila. She’s revealed to be Sam’s sister played by Marcia Gay Harden. Connor calls Annalise and tells her about her sister-in-law’s arrival and Annalise is not pleased.
