Rodney Hamilton, 17, was charged with two counts of burglary, possession of heroin with intent to distribute, possession of Xanax with intent to distribute and possession of a legend drug — possession of antibiotics without a prescription
LSUPD spokesperson Capt. Cory Lalonde said LSUPD officers were dispatched to Tiger Stadium on Jan. 22 in reference to a complaint of a suspicious person inside the building.
Lalonde said the complainant was able to give a physical description and officers located the suspect inside the football locker room where he was eating food he had taken from the weight room.
Hamilton told officers he worked at the PMAC and was allowed to use the weight room, but officers were able to disprove his alibi, Lalonde said.
Lalonde said Hamilton had a pill bottle in his position containing five antibiotic pills and one Xanax pill.
The pill bottle holding the drugs contained the name of a different individual and Hamilton told police he found the bottle, Lalonde said.
Lalonde said Hamilton was arrested and brought to LSUPD headquarters where he was thoroughly searched.
Officers discovered two small bags of heroin containing a total of .6 grams, Lalonde said.
Lalonde said Hamilton told investigators he was trying to sell the drugs.
Hamilton was booked into East Baton Rouge Parish Prison
On Jan.23, LSUPD investigators contacted Hamilton at East Baton Rouge Parish Prison and questioned him in regards to a separate incident, Lalonde said.
Lalonde said LSUPD received a report Jan. 16 stating multiple pairs of shoes and an iPad were stolen from the PMAC men’s locker room.
Hamilton admitted to stealing the shoes, but denied taking the iPad, Lalonde said.
Hamilton told investigators they would be able to find the shoes at his home located on 675 West Mckinley Street, Lalonde said.
LSUPD was able to locate the shoes and charged Hamilton with a second count of burglary.
Student arrested for criminal damage to property
LSUPD received a report Nov. 25 of a damaged exit sign in Herget Hall.
Lalonde said investigators reviewed surveillance footage and identified a suspect.
Following the distribution of a help identify flyer, University student Grant Garrison, 19, contacted LSUPD and identified himself as the suspect, Lalonde said,
Lalonde said Garrison visited LSUPD on Jan. 19 and admitted to damaging the sign.
Garrison was issued a misdemeanor summons and released.
Man arrested for outstanding warrant
Jason Jenkins, 32, was stopped Jan. 19 for speeding on Nicholson Drive.
Lalonde said officers discovered Jenkins had an outstanding warrant for possession of marijuana and an outstanding traffic warrant.
Jenkins was booked in East Baton Rouge Parish Prison.
Women arrested for DWI
Ayana Forbes, 22, was charged with second offense DWI, following too close, driving with a suspended license, no proof of insurance and 3 counts of failure to appear in court. Forbes is not a University student.
On Jan. 20, an LSUPD officer was driving on Highland Road and stopped to let a pedestrian cross when he was struck from behind, Lalonde said.
During the investigation it became apparent to the officer Forbes was intoxicated, Lalonde said.
Lalonde said Forbes performed poorly on a field sobriety test and was arrested.
Officers brought Forbes to LSUPD where she was given the opportunity to provide a breath sample but refused, Lalonde said.
Lalonde said Forbes told investigators she had several drinks prior to the accident.
Forbes was booked in East Baton Rouge Parish Prison.
