After an up-and-down career as a Lady Tiger, Danielle Ballard will not return to the LSU women’s basketball team for her senior season.
Despite being suspended for the first 14 games of the 2014-15 season for a violation of team rules, Ballard garnered All-Southeastern Conference First Team and Defensive Team honors from the leagues coaches after leading the Lady Tigers’ with 14.5 points and 7.2 rebounds per game.
“We appreciate all that Danielle has done for our program during her time at LSU,” said LSU coach Nikki Caldwell said in a news release. “We wish her nothing but the best and success in her future endeavors.”
Throughout her LSU career, Ballard showcased an ability to take over a game.
Against then-No. 15 Mississippi State on Jan. 15, the Memphis, Tennessee, native recorded a double-double with 24 points and 10 rebounds and pushed the game into double-overtime with a game-tying three-pointer, leading the Lady Tigers to their first victory of the season against a ranked opponent.
In her sophomore season, Ballard stepped up in the NCAA Tournament after the loss of then-freshman guard Raigyne Moncrief and senior guard Jeanne Kenney to season-ending injuries.
Ballard averaged 23.3 points and 14 rebounds per game during the Lady Tigers’ run to the Sweet Sixteen, becoming the first player since former forward Theresa Plaisance in 2012 to tally 20-plus points in three straight games.
