Coming off a season-changing series win against then-No.1 Florida, no one would have blamed the LSU baseball team if it had a hangover of sorts against Alcorn State (7-26) on Tuesday. Sophomore pitcher Joe Broussard made sure no such hangover would exist. After already beating the Braves 19-0 in the second game of the season, LSU (26-7) had a much more methodical, sometimes ugly, 7-2 win Tuesday night. “The best thing I can say about this game is that it’s over,” LSU head coach Paul Mainieri said. “We pitched wonderfully, we just didn’t have a lot of quality at-bats.” Broussard, starting only his third game of the season, struck out a career-high eight batters, while only issuing one walk and five hits through 6 1/3 innings. Junior right fielder Mason Katz led the Tigers with two hits, including a leadoff solo home run that propelled the Tigers to a two-run seventh inning that Alcorn St. never recovered from.
