Multifaceted soul artist Cee Lo Green combines 1980s synth and new-age soul to create the effervescently original sound that dominates radio waves today.
Notorious for avant-garde costumes and wildly over-the-top performances, Green promises to entertain at Jazz Fest 2012.
Green first emerged in the music scene as a member of Atlanta rap group Goodie Mob with the release of “Soul Food” in 1995, which pioneered the Dirty South
movement in ’90s hip hop music.
After releasing two more albums with the group and a brief stint as a solo act, Green ditched the gangsta rap appeal and reinvented himself as the second half of soul duo Gnarls Barkley. The duo’s first single, “Crazy,” received overwhelming commercial success, reaching No. 1 on various singles charts worldwide.
In 2010, Green revived his efforts as a solo artist with the release of “The Lady Killer.” The album featured the widely popular hit “Fuck You,” receiving five Grammy nods and a win for “Best Urban/Alternative Performance.”
The artist proved to be even more versatile in 2011 with multiple endeavors in television and film. Green serves as a vocal coach on NBC’s hit show “The Voice,” and is currently the face of the 7Up campaign. He also landed his own FUSE talk show, as well as a role in the upcoming film “Sparkle.”
With more than 15 years in business, Green has become a staple in the music industry and shows no signs of quitting. Green is collaborating with music producer Jazzy Pha
for the upcoming album “Happy Hour,” and he plans to release another Gnarls Barkley creation.
Whether belting out soulful tunes in a group or flying solo, the Lady Killer is sure to slay.
