Top Dawg Entertainment left it’s mark on Louisiana this past weekend with the first all Hip Hop BET Music Matters tour. The tour featured Ohio’s Fly.Union, Stalley and T.D.E artists: Jay Rock, Ab- Soul and headliner Kendrick Lamar. I had the unique opportunity of attending both the New Orleans show ( House of Blues) and Baton Rouge (Varsity). The budding stars brought down the House of Blues, I left the New Orleans show hoarse and with a massive headache ( yes. that is just how hard I was rapping Kendrick’s Lamar’s Micheal Jordan.) I returned to Baton Rouge to “do it all over again” at the Varsity; from the word go of Tour DJ, Band Camp’s set I knew that this would be a totally different experience. The line up was the same, even Kendrick’s wardrobe was the same but the love and connection they had with the audience was not. Those in attendance ended this weekend with an immense about of respect for Mr. Lamar and a deeper understanding into the HiiiPower/Black Hippy/TDE movement.
Below is the highlight reel from both the House Blues and Varsity shows. Kendrick performs Aye Life Radio favorites : A.D.H.D, F*ck Your Ethnicity, Cut You Off, Blow My High , Swimming Pools, & Cartoon & Cereal. Also as an added bonus: Ab-Soul’s Terrorist Threats.
