THIBODAUX, La. (AP) — A new country music event has been set to help raise money for the Thibodaux Volunteer Fire Department.
The Flames on the Bayou Music Festival is scheduled for 1 p.m. Oct. 27 at the Thibodaux Firemen’s Fairgrounds. The Daily Comet (http://bit.ly/Su3IyM) reports that the schedule includes performances by Billy Currington, Thompson Square, Corey Smith and 90 Degrees West. Tickets cost $41.55.
The event will supplement fund raising at the annual Thibodaux Firemen’s Fair, which is held in May and typically raises more than $500,000 for the department. The 2012 fair raised $633,160, a record amount for the four-day fair.
Thibodaux Fire Chief Randy Pate said agency officials have discussed for years holding a music festival on its fairgrounds.
“Taking the concert avenue is a little bit different and will let us draw in more people from Baton Rouge, New Orleans and Lafayette,” he said. “This is not something our area usually sees.”
Pate said the venue was intended to be used several times a year for fundraisers, not solely for the annual fair.
