The Baton Rouge Metropolitan Airport’s terminal and its parking garage were evacuated due to a bomb threat Thursday evening, according to airport spokesman Jim Caldwell.
East Baton Rouge Sheriff Sid Gautreaux said a car bomb in a black SUV parked in the airport parking garage was reported.
The FBI are involved in the investigation, Gautreaux said.
Flights scheduled to land are still landing, but the planes are not docking at the terminal, Caldwell said. Those in terminals were evacuated to a nearby hangar.
He said the threat was reported between 5 p.m. and 6 p.m.
Baton Rouge Police spokesman Cpl. L’Jean McKneely with said, “There is a bomb threat [at the Baton Rouge airport], but airport police are heading up the investigation.”
Airport police aren’t releasing any information at this time.
The threat comes only three days after the University evacuated campus after William Bouvay Jr., 42 of Baton Rouge, falsely reported planted bombs on campus. Bouvay was indicted by a grand jury today for the crime.
