Pastor questions Jesus Talk GuyIn regards to the “Jesus Talk Guy” article published Oct. 30: I find it strange that Mr. Imes suggests we should emulate Jesus while his own methods are something Jesus never did. It appears Mr. Imes forgets that Jesus was, above all, an open-air preacher. Likewise, He was very confrontational and controversial. In the four gospels alone he preached on hell, judgment, and condemnation 167 times; in contrast He only mentioned the love of God toward mankind six times. Jesus never simply sat in a chair harmlessly waiting for someone to approach Him. Jesus was very pro-active in communicating His message. He even used a whip to cleanse the temple, driving would-be merchants from the temple courts. In fact, His message and methods were so despised and hated that he was murdered (John 7:7). Moreover, it is interesting that Mr. Imes refuses to discuss Scripture with us, the members of Consuming Fire Fellowship. Why doesn’t he love us enough to reason with us out of the Bible? We have approached him several times attempting discourse, even inviting him to sit down and share a meal, but he refuses every overture to communicate. This Jesus did not do. In fact, Jesus openly dialogued with the Pharisees and used the Scriptures to overthrow their false ideas/practices. We would be wise to remember Jesus’ warning in Luke 6:26, “Woe unto you when all men speak well of you. For so did their fathers to the false prophets.” Thus far, I am not aware of even one negative comment, either by the Reveille or the LSU students, posted on-line or in print about Mr. Imes. It should make one wonder, if Mr. Imes represents the “Jesus” of the Bible why isn’t he facing more opposition or criticism?Britt WilliamsPastor, Consuming Fire Fellowship—-Contact The Daily Reveille’s opinion staff at [email protected]
