Saturday’s LSU-Troy game will be broadcast in the native language of the Navajo Indian tribe, the LSU Athletic Department announced Thursday.
Cuyler Frank and Leandro Jodie, members of the Navajo tribe, will broadcast the game on the radio stations KGAK and KNDN out of New Mexico. The broadcast will also be live-streamed on www.LSUsports.net.
“I feel like this is the pinnacle of my broadcasting career,” Frank said in a news release.
Frank, who regularly broadcasts New Mexico State football and basketball, is a friend of LSU Chancellor Michael Martin, the former president of New Mexico State.
“Cuyler and I became friends at NMSU, and I supported his broadcasting efforts,” Martin said in a news release. “Doing so sent a message that we are committed to recruiting American Indians and reaching out to their communities, and I want LSU to send that same message to all communities.”
Jodie, who has helped Frank as a color commentator for New Mexico State football games, said he is excited to experience Tiger Stadium.
“You see LSU on TV, and you always wonder what it would be like to be in that atmosphere,” Jodie said in a news release.
Frank also said he was looking forward to the opportunity.
“I’ve wanted to do a game like this away from NMSU for a while now, and then one day Dr. Martin called me and invited me,” he said in a news release. “I’m tickled to death, and I can’t wait.”
