Intramural flag football playoffs begin this week at the University Student Recreation Complex, and one team already knows what it takes to win it all.The Real Dynasty won the playoffs the past two years and is one of the teams favored to win the championship this year. The Dynasty beat Air Raid, 26-6, Sunday night in their first playoff game. Van English, finance senior and wide receiver for the Dynasty, said the team has never lost a game at LSU.”We have won the LSU league twice,” English said. “We went to regionals in Hattiesburg, Miss., and won that.”English said the competition this year has been really tough, and teams have come close to beating the Dynasty. “Teams have really come out and tried to play us hard,” English said. “We always have a target on our back so we get everybody’s best game.”English said several of his teammates went to high school together and were connected through college and fraternities.”We have four or five guys that are the core group that have always played together,” English said. “We just keep trying to rebuild our team after every year.”English said the team never practices during the week.”We just come out and play,” English said. “There is no serious practice.” Matt George, biological sciences senior and offensive and defensive lineman for the Dynasty, said many players played high school football.”We have great athletes, and we have a few guys that were all-state high school football players,” George said.George said the team could win the playoffs this year.”This team has won the last two years, and I believe this year we have as good as chance as the last two,” George said.English said he thought the team played well in their first playoff game.”We didn’t give up any points on defense, and we were able to jump on them early,” English said.Taylor Brett, public relations sophomore and Air Raid player, said his team played their best, but the Dynasty outplayed the team offensively. “We gave it our best shot, but that was the best flag football team I have ever seen in my life,” Brett said.He said it would have been nice to beat them, but there was no shame in losing to the Dynasty.”I feel like once we jumped on them early, we should have put them away but gave them an interception and let them back into the game,” English said.George said the next round in the playoffs should prove to be a bigger test. “We will be playing a team we played in the regular season that are pretty good and have a quarterback that is really dynamic to play against,” George said. The Dynasty defeated Da Bayou Bengals in a close overtime game in the regular season, English said. “We’ll see,” English said. “We still have a long way to go, and our next team we play is really good.”The Dynasty will play the Bengals again Tuesday night in round 3 of the playoffs at the UREC. The flag football playoffs will continue this week, and the finals will take place November 4 at 8 pm.
