Apartments didn’t evict residentsMany properties throughout the city had damage from the storm, and many residents have had to move because to storm damage. We are disappointed the Reveille would focus on a limited issue by one resident, and not understand the real damage that has happened to properties throughout our city and state. We have done our best to help our residents and only wish your article had accurately reflected our efforts as well as issues facing our entire city and state from Hurricane Gustav. Your article stated that we were evicting 30 residents. We did not evict anyone, we asked them to move due to storm damage, and we found housing for many of them at reduced rates in our other properties. The two buildings that received the notice had a total of 30 apartments in them. Approximately 15 of the residents had already decided their apartment home was not livable, and they would not be staying in their apartment home in that condition. There were about 15 apartments that were still occupied, and these were the residents that were asked to move out. We have always been very concerned about the welfare of our residents. The power was out at Highland Plantation for approximately a week after the storm, and our team was cooking food and providing drinks as a courtesy to our residents, since no one had power to cook.
