LSU coach Les Miles appeared noticeably terse at his post-practice press conference Wednesday — briefly answering questions with a slight edge to his voice. He wasn’t eager to discuss last year’s trickery against South Carolina — Colt David’s fake field goal touchdown off a flip pass from Matt Flynn.”I don’t know,” Miles responded when asked if Spurrier may have an answer to the trick come Saturday.Miles said he didn’t intend to be uncooperative with the press. Rather, he’s eager to move past the Tigers’ 51-21 blowout loss to Florida.”I try to be more verbose at times, but I’m just looking forward to playing,” he said. And Saturday’s 7 p.m. ESPN contest at South Carolina can’t come soon enough for Miles. “This is Wednesday,” he said with some angst. “We have Thursday and Friday until we get to play.” STATUS IN QUESTIONStarting junior defensive tackle Ricky Jean-Francois once again may not suit up for the Tigers.Jean-Francois did not travel to the Florida game because of a lingering groin injury and may miss Saturday’s contest at South Carolina.”Ricky Jean-Francois may be the only questionable [player],” Miles said. “He practiced a little bit this week.”REDSHIRT POTENTIALMiles said he hasn’t ruled out the possibility of redshirting true freshman quarterback Jordan Jefferson.Jefferson played in the North Texas and Mississippi State games for just a handful of snaps. For him to qualify for the NCAA’s “hardship waiver” redshirt status, Jefferson must have sustained an “incapacitating” injury or illness in the first half of the season and played in less than 20 percent of LSU’s regular season games.Miles said Jefferson suffered a “documented” shoulder injury during play.”I’ve given a bit more thought to it as time goes on,” Miles said about redshirting Jefferson. “It really depends on how the next couple of weeks go in terms of health. “THROW ME THE BALLMiles said he’s satisfied with the potential playmakers routinely used in Gary Crowton’s offensive scheme.”I think the guys that we’re using are the guys that we need to continue to use,” he said. “The more times that Trindon Holliday can touch the ball, the better. I’d have a hard time taking touches away from Charles Scott and some of the guys that we’re getting the ball to now.”The frequent throws to junior Brandon LaFell and senior Demetrius Byrd have left younger players such as Terrance Toliver and Chris Mitchell with limited chances.Toliver’s first catch of the season came against Mississippi State, and his 32-yard, two-catch total against Florida were both season highs.”No comment,” Toliver responded Monday when asked if he was satisfied with his offensive involvement.ACCOLADESCBSsports.com announced on Wednesday that senior offensive guard Herman Johnson has been named to its Midseason All-America team. The list features 11 players on both offense and defense, as well as four special team players.Johnson was an All-Southeastern Conference first-team member last season.—-Contact Amy Brittain at [email protected]
