LSU football coach Les Miles wants his players to take a break from football this weekend and recharge their batteries. But Miles is a realist, and he knows the lure of a Saturday in front of the TV will be tough for his players to turn down.”I want them to enjoy their weekend — get off their legs, relax, see their families if they can and make sure they’re doing their work in the classrooms,” he said Thursday after LSU’s scrimmage. “But I know that 90 percent of them will be watching the Florida game.”The No. 3 Tigers already have their eyes locked in on their next opponent — No. 12 Florida. The Gators are coming off a 31-30 loss to Ole Miss and seeking redemption Saturday on the road against Arkansas. Even Miles admitted he will take some time to study the game.”I love watching those games,” he said. “I can’t watch them on game day with a team that I’m preparing.”Miles will also tune in Sunday to see former LSU quarterback Matt Flynn, who may start for the Green Bay Packers against Atlanta if quarterback Aaron Rodgers is unable to recover from an injury.”I would describe him as a competitor and a guy who understands the game and just loved to play it,” Miles said. “I was just watching a play against Florida that he made when he ran out of bounds, and [it looked like] he was just having fun. I liked that about him.” INJURY UPDATESSenior linebacker Darry Beckwith, junior defensive tackle Ricky Jean-Francois and senior defensive tackle Charles Alexander sat out of LSU’s scrimmage Thursday because of lingering injuries. Miles remains optimistic all three will be ready to play against Florida. RECRUITING AND REVIEWINGMiles planned to spend Thursday night in his office making recruiting calls while reviewing tape from the Tigers’ earlier scrimmage.”It was a good go,” he said. “We used some of our things that we put it in for Florida. We got them on tape, and we will review this film very much like a game.”Miles also hoped to gain some ground in recruiting efforts for his 2009 signing class. He’s specifically looking to pick up top talent at the defensive end and tackle positions.- – – -Contact Amy Brittain at [email protected]
