Senior linebacker Darry Beckwith and redshirt freshman quarterback Jarrett Lee missed practice today for the Tigers with minor injuries, head coach Les Miles after practice Tuesday.
Beckwith suffered a shoulder contusion, Miles said.
“He will be out three days,” Miles said. “That’s a guess, maybe four.”
Sophomore quarterback Andrew Hatch took snaps with LSU’s first-team offense on the practice field because of Lee’s leg injury.
“Lee will be fine,” Miles said. “He’ll be out three or five days.”
Lee suffered a mild soft-tissue leg injury, Miles said after Monday’s practice.
Senior center Brett Helms and senior defensive tackle Charles Alexander also continued to miss practice, but Miles again noted that none of their injuries were too serious.
‘PLENTY OF WORK TO DO’
The Tigers took 75-80 snaps in practice, and Miles said there is plenty of work to do on both offense and defense.
“We need to play smarter,” Miles said. “The offense turned the ball over a couple of times.”
Miles would not say who gave the ball up, instead answering, “somebody who shouldn’t have.”
Sophomore running back Richard Murphy and junior running back Charles Scott impressed Miles, as each had carries for 20-30 yards in practice.
Hatch also turned a broken play into a 15-yard gain.
Miles said the defense was not as smooth as he would have liked, citing penalties and sloppy play.
“The defense was sticky at times,” Miles said. “It wasn’t necessarily the error-free football I’m looking for.”
The team’s next scrimmage will be on Saturday.
“The Saturday scrimmage will not be as much tackling — instead more situational,” Miles said. “We’ll go in the stadium and work on sideline discipline and make sure the coaches are in the box in preparation for a game.”
