With three of LSU’s four intramural flag football teams still alive in the 2008 American Collegiate Intramural Sports Flag Football National Championships, it was the one that failed to qualify for the playoffs that was making noise.LSU UREC men runner-up, Real Dynasty, was disqualified from the tournament after its 31-13 loss to North Carolina A&T because of too many unsportsmanlike conduct penalties.A team is allowed four such penalties in the tournament before being disqualified, according to Tamara Jarrett, director of LSU’s UREC.Jarrett also said one member of Real Dynasty was ejected from the tournament after allegedly threatening the life of a referee after the team’s final match.”We were shocked and embarrassed to learn that this happened,” Jarrett said. “We will certainly address this issue when we get back to campus.”LSU’s three remaining teams all lost in their first round playoff games.LSU Acacia, who finished round-robin play in the men’s open bracket with a 1-2 record, lost to UT-Pan Am, 21-13.”We held them defensively, and we didn’t play badly,” said Acacia team captain Stephen Carriere. “The officials were just too inconsistent with their calls.”In the Co-rec bracket, LSU’s Dunkin’ Doughnuts lost to the University of Nebraska, 56-18.Kraig Cason, team captain, said the team’s fatigue began to set in after the three matches the team played Monday.”We did well in the first half. We hung in there,” he said. “But we just got really tired at the end. Those three matches yesterday took a lot out of us because we’re not used to playing that much in one day.”LSU’s women’s team was shutout by Texas State, 52-0.Team captain Lauren Simoneaux said the team played well but lacked offensive production against a very good Texas State team.”We’re all competitive athletes, so we wanted to win,” she said. “But we just want to have fun playing, and we did.”The team was also pleased to have just competed.”Hey, we finished sixth in the nation,” the team yelled out after the match.Jarrett said she was pleased with the play of LSU’s teams at such a high level.”Our teams have the physical talent to compete at the national level, but they need to learn to be smarter,” Jarrett said. “We’re really pleased with the athletes that come out here and represented this University with class.”
