DENHAM SPRINGS, La. (AP) — Work has been completed on a historic landmark in Livingston Parish. The Old City Hall in Denham Springs, which dates back to the 1930s, had fallen into disrepair. It also had been vandalized over the years.City leaders began a movement 10 years ago to restore the building. Now, the mayor is hoping to hold a city council meeting there before the end of the year. The restored building will serve as a tourism office. The building had previously served a number of different purposes until it was shut down in the 1980s. A U.S. Department of the Interior report has recommended that the structure eventually be included on the National Register of Historic Places. The building was constructed by the Works Progress Administration, begun during the administration of President Franklin D. Roosevelt.
