A new parking lot for residential students, located along South Stadium Drive, is getting final touches this week.
The lot is located in front of the AgCenter’s barn near Parker Coliseum.
Gary Graham, director of the Office of Parking, Traffic and Transportation, said he doesn’t know exactly how many spots the new lot will have but thinks it will probably have about 110 to 120.
Graham said he hopes students will be able to start parking in the lot Friday.
Graham said the contractors from Industrial Enterprise completed a final inspection of the lot last week, but some work still needs to be done.
“The lighting still needs to be installed once the contractor corrects his last few things such as grouting, fine grading the bare areas, seeding, et cetera,” Graham said.
Many resident students are excited about having more parking spots near their dorms.
“That’s awesome,” said Nichole Cavaretta, marketing freshman, when she heard about the new lot. “There’s no parking spots ever, and I have to park in the Rec half the time.”
Cavaretta, a resident of Herget dorm, said she often has problems finding parking spots late at night.
“If you come back [to the dorm] past 8, there’s no spots,” Cavaretta said.
But some students think the new lot isn’t close enough to their dorms.
“Parking is an issue by Herget, but it seems kind of far though,” said Tony Ecker, psychology freshman.
Ecker said that even though it may seem far, he is excited about more parking for students.
Construction of the lot is part of the University’s 5-year Parking Master Plan.
