A shooting outside a convenience store near the Bell Tower occurred at 10 p.m. Monday night at 18 Maiden Lane, leaving one man, Eli Ramsey, 44, injured.

According to Sgt. Jon Barnwell of Campus Police, no students were involved and the altercation, which was reported at 10 p.m., did not appear to pose any ongoing threats for the campus community.

“Two individuals pulled into the Bell Tower mart and it led to one being shot,” he said.

Officer Jim Sughrue of Raleigh Police said police are still investigating the case and that only one person was wounded by the handgun. He said he cannot tell with certainty who made the call to report the incident as of Tuesday evening.

“The victim was there looking for a friend at that address and he reported that a black Lexus pulled up with several males in it,” he said. “One of the males in the car exited and began to fire shots [with a hand gun].”

According to Sughure, it is too early to determine what the “exact nature of the circumstances may have been.”
