BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — Officials say the work force at the state Department of Transportation and Development is set to shrink for the 10th consecutive year.
Gov. Bobby Jindal’s budget envisions 4,704 employees at the agency starting on July 1, down 132 from today’s roster.
Louisiana’s transportation office will have dropped by about 900 employees in the past decade, a 16 percent reduction, if lawmakers go along with the governor’s budget request.
The issue surfaced during a hearing Tuesday on the agency’s budget in the state House Appropriations Committee.
The panel is reviewing Jindal’s budget proposal in advance of the 2009 regular legislative session, which begins April 27.
