The No. 23 LSU women’s tennis team split its Sunday doubleheader, dropping the first match against Florida State,5-2, but earning a victory against Southern, 6-1. LSU’s No. 15 doubles pair of seniors Mykala Hedberg and Megan Falcon won their match, 7-2. “I was pretty pleased and pretty proud of the effort,” said LSU women’s coach Tony Minnis. LSU earned a point against Southern because the Lady Jaguars only had five players. In singles play, Hedberg scored the first point for the Lady Tigers, winning her match, 6-1, 6-0. LSU sophomore Kylie Adamek then clinched the Lady Tigers victory with a 6-0, 6-2 win. Adamek said there wasn’t any added pressure when the Lady Tigers went up 3-0 against the Lady Jaguars. “I really wasn’t aware of how many people had finished,” Adamek said. “I wasn’t sure if it was three or four.” The No. 14 LSU men’s team lost to No. 3 Ohio State, 7-0, in Columbus, Ohio on Sunday. The Buckeyes won all six singles matches against the Tigers. The only win of the day for LSU was by freshman Neal Skupski and senior Michael Venus against Justin Kronauge and Steven Moneke. Ohio State still managed to win the doubles point with two other doubles victories. “We played a pretty close doubles point, but we still have some work to do there,” said LSU men’s coach Jeff Brown in a news release. “They were tough in singles and certainly at home they are difficult to do well against, but we know we have along way to go and a lot do.” —- Contact Amos Morale at [email protected]
