The LSU women’s tennis team defeated SMU, 4-0, at “Dub” Robinson Stadium today in an impressive performance. The Lady Tigers defeated the Lady Mustangs in doubles competition with a three-match sweep. The LSU doubles team of junior Hannah Robinson and freshman Whitney Wolf took down SMU’s Monica Nevelovska and Kristin Reid, 8-4.LSU’s No. 17 ranked doubles team of seniors Megan Falcon and Mykala Hedberg defeated the SMU duo of Natalie Bubien and Pavi Francis, 8-2, to improve their record to 16-3. LSU completed the sweep as the Lady Tiger duo of junior Nicole Kantor and senior Staten Soencer beat SMU’s Nicole Briceno and Kseniia Tokarieva, 8-6. In singles competition, LSU’s No. 5 ranked Falcon defeated Bubien, SMU’s top player, 6-1, 6-2. Falcon’s record on the season improved to 17-4.Robinson beat SMU’s Neveklovska 6-0, 6-2, while LSU’s Kantor defeated Reid 6-0, 6-1. The Lady Tigers clinched the match when LSU’s Nicole Smith beat SMU’s Casey Kennedy 6-3, 6-0.”It was a very good win. I was really impressed with our team and our very hard-fought victory,” said LSU women’s tennis head coach Tony Minnis.The Lady Tigers will next travel to College Station, Texas to take on No. 2 ranked Texas A&M. “We have to continue getting better and prepare for a very tough Texas A&M team,” Minnis said.
