Forever LSU, the University’s massive fundraising campaign, is just more than $100 million away from meeting its goal of raising $750 millionby the end of 2010.
Beverly Major, director of Forever LSU, said as of the last tally onJune 30, the campaign has raised $643,611,225.05. Major said campaignorganizers expect to reach the goal and possibly exceed it.
“LSU has been incredibly successful [with the campaign],” Major said.”To quote Michael Martin, ‘Winners bet on winners and Tigers bet onTigers.”
The campaign has received about $611 million in private donations andanother $32 million in state matches. Major said private donationstypically go to a specific organization, like a scholarship fund orthe band, that is important to the individual donor.
The Forever LSU campaign ends in 2010 to coincide with theUniversity’s sesquicentennial, or 150th anniversary.
