BATON ROUGE, La.—With more than 20 students diagnosed with Type A influenza on the University’s campus, Chancellor Michael Martin is asking students to take extra care in preventing the spread of Type A influenza, which could lead to the H1N1 virus.
In an e-mail on Friday, Martin asked students diagnosed with any type of flu to “stay home from work or school, if possible, and limit contact with others.”
Martin said there will be no changes in class schedules or schools. Because the virus is spread by contact there is no reason to cancel class if sick students stay home, he said.
Martin advised students to wash their hands and using hand sanitizer often.
Any student who shows flu-like symptoms should immediately go see a doctor, Martin said. The Student Health Center is open Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
