The LSU men’s and women’s tennis teams continue their road competitions in the ITA Kick-Off Weekend on Saturday. The No. 19 men’s team will play in Tulsa, Okla., against No. 21 Texas Tech on Saturday. The winner will face the winner of the match between No. 13 Tulsa and No. 30 Notre Dame on Sunday. “We’re all very similar,” said LSU men’s tennis coach Jeff Brown. “There are seven points possible, and everyone has a point or two in their lineup that they are pretty sure they are going to get. There are only a few that are up for grabs.”The No. 26 Lady Tigers will play in Los Angeles against No. 62 DePaul on Saturday. The winner will face the winner of the UCLA and Minnesota match Sunday. The Lady Tigers had a week off after traveling to Colorado and New Mexico Jan. 17 and Jan. 19. “The week off was good,” said senior Megan Falcon. “We needed a couple days off from tennis because Colorado and New Mexico was kind of a long weekend.”Falcon said her team is excited about the chance to play No. 3 UCLA.”UCLA won the NCAA team championship last year, so they are a really good team,” Falcon said. Senior Michael Venus will return to action Saturday after sitting out the Auburn Spring Classic on Jan. 23. Brown said he wanted to give Venus a rest after finishing the four-day Southeastern Conference Indoor Championships Jan. 19. “It was good for the guys to be able to play a little bit higher position with Mike not being there,” Brown said. Brown said the team has gotten a lot of experience the last few weeks after playing in the SEC Indoor Championships and the Auburn Spring Classic.”We were able to go to those two tournaments, and we’re further along than we’ve been at this time of year,” Brown said. Brown said the match against Texas Tech can go either way and is a “coin-toss match.” “It’s close any time the two teams are in the top 50,” Brown said. “It’s going to be a close match.”——Contact Jarred Leblanc at [email protected]
