LSU senior Monica McJunkin called this weekend’s match-up with Delta State bittersweet. The Tigers will celebrate senior day at Saturday’s meet with the NCAA Division-II foe. “It’s going to be a really emotional, and it’s going to be exciting,” McJunkin said. “All of our families are going be here. There’s gonna be a large crowd so it’s definitely going to be a sad/happy day for all of us.” The Tigers have 19 seniors on the roster they will honor as they host the Statesmen at the LSU Natatorium.”It’s a chance for them to celebrate their four years of being here or however many years they were here,” said LSU coach Adam Schmitt. The Tigers and Lady Tigers defeated Delta State, 195-89 and 188-103, last season. The meet has no implications on the season and so the Tigers and Lady Tigers lineup will change.”We do get to swim some of the things we don’t get to swim usually,” McJunkin said. “So the meet will be kind of a nice break for some of the girls mentally.”The swimming and diving teams have a meet every weekend throughout the rest of month which Schmitt said will be beneficial when the team heads to the the Southeastern Conference championships Feb. 18.”Once a week is really good to race, to get used to racing,” Schmitt said. “When you get to you’re racing four days in a row so it’s good.”–Contact Amos Morale at [email protected]
