Chelsea’s Café will host a fundraiser and blood drive for injured LSU student Michael Bitton on Wednesday night.
Bitton, a graduate student in geography and a member of the LSU cycling club, sustained life-threatening injuries Saturday morning when he was hit by a vehicle while cycling on River Road.
Brennan Percy, president of the LSU cycling club, said the benefit will go toward Bitton’s hospital bills, as well as his family’s transportation to Baton Rouge from Ontario, Canada.
“He has LSU insurance, but we wanted to help with the medical expenses,” Percy said.
The benefit begins at 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at Chelsea’s. The $10 cover will provide food and a concert by The Fugitive Poets. Percy said all proceeds and all bartenders’ tips will go to Bitton’s family. Additional donations are also welcome.
Percy also said Life Share Blood Center will send a bus to Chelsea’s from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. to accept blood donations.
