“The Freedom to Express some kinds of opinion Tunnel”
I think the Freedom Expression Tunnel should be renamed. It is obvious there are restrictions on what you can and cannot write in the tunnel. You either have true freedom of speech or you do not. With a student body of 30,000 plus, vile things will be written in the tunnel and statements made against all classes, colors and sexuality. Are we to have front page stories in the Technician every time something bad is written in the tunnel? Will illegal blockades be the norm from now on? What is the litmus test to determine what is acceptable?
Thomas Stafford, vice chancellor of Student Affairs, thinks an appropriate measure would be to suspend any painting in the tunnel for a week and call it “a moratorium of speech.” Stafford, we don’t even know if the person who committed this act was an NCSU student or not. But if you feel the need to impose institutional censorship on a Freedom of Expression tunnel, far be it from me to stand in the way of this act of irony.
The tunnel needs to stay open, but be renamed. I propose “The Freedom to Express some kinds of opinion, but not too many, since it might offend some people Tunnel.”
