No. 12 LSU is tied up with Tennessee, 7-7, at halftime in Tiger Stadium.
The Tigers wasted no time as junior quarterback Jordan Jefferson scored on a 83-yard rushing touchdown on the first play from scrimmage for an early 7-0 advantage.
Tennessee running back Tauren Poole tied it up with 24 seconds remaining in the first quarter with a touchdown plunge from 1-yard out.
Despite Jefferson’s early score, LSU Les Miles decided to go with a two-quarterback system, rotating Jefferson and junior Jarrett Lee in the first half.
Lee was 6-for-8 for 58 yards in two series, while Jefferson was 3-for-8 for 30 yards and an interception.
LSU had at least two other prime scoring opportunities to open up the game but squandered both.
Senior kicker Josh Jasper missed a 54-yard field goal and junior tight end Deangelo Peterson fumbled inside the Tennessee 40-yard line.
LSU outgained Tennessee 216 yards to 96 in the first half.
