LSU Men’s Basketball faced off against Alabama in the Pete Maravich Assembly Center Saturday night, renewing an intense rivalry that began with football but has come to permeate multiple sports. The Crimson Tide ultimately defeated the Tigers 74-66. Following the loss, LSU Head Coach Will Wade expressed his feeling of personal responsibility for sending the fans home disappointed.
“I feel terrible; I feel like I let everybody down, just to have that amount of folks here, and you know, we just haven’t figured it out at home yet,” Wade said.
The Tigers played in front of a sellout crowd and what was the fifth largest crowd in the PMAC since its most recent reconfiguration.
Wade also spoke to the team’s atypical winning pattern in conference play – losing both of their first two home games to Kentucky and Alabama but winning away games against Texas A&M and Arkansas.
“We’re like the reverse – we can win on the road; we can’t win at home,” Wade said.
Wade mentioned the possibility of implementing some elements of the team’s road routine for home games moving forward.
“Maybe put them in a hotel the night before a game…we can limit some distractions and do a couple of things like that, make it more like our road routine. Our road routine works pretty well so we may need to make it a little bit more like our road routine,” Wade said.
LSU shot 17 for 22 at the free throw line (77.3%) while Alabama did not miss a single one of its 18 free throws. The Tigers were also outrebounded by the Tide 40-24.
LSU’s next contest is a home matchup with the Georgia Bulldogs Tuesday at 6 p.m.
