First reported by The Advocate’s Ross Dellenger, LSU will hang on to its defensive coordinator Dave Aranda, despite multiple offers from conference foe Texas A&M, a source confirmed.
The news first broke surface prior to LSU’s Citrus Bowl game over the weekend where Aranda turned down Texas A&M’s initial offer. The Aggies persisted, however, and came at Aranda with a second offer.
LSU coach Ed Orgeron further confirmed this news via Twitter Wednesday night.
The tweet said, “I’m very happy to report Dave Aranda has agreed to be with our program for years to come. Thanks to Joe Alleva, Dr. Alexander and the board of supervisors for their support in making this happen.”
Aranda’s original contract with LSU ran through 2019 with a $1.85 million annual salary. He is currently the highest paid assistant coach in college football, and is only getting richer.
Aranda has agreed to a contract extension that will pay him $2.5 million per year for four years and is the first assistant coach to break the $2 million barrier.
Aranda has been a crucial component of LSU’s success of recruiting some of the nation’s most talented defensive players.
