Trap music is the latest phenomenon within the hip-hop genre, with its provocative language gaining popularity particularly within the college-aged generation. Atlanta-based rapper Shayaa Joseph, also known as 21 Savage, has taken this up-and-coming music scene by storm.
21 Savage will perform at the Howlin’ Wolf in New Orleans on Oct. 26th at 8 p.m. Tickets cost $45.
Widely recognized for the symbol of a cross on his forehead, many of the rapper’s lyrics stem from his difficult background. He was expelled for bringing a gun to school in the seventh grade.
Deeply affected by the death of his best friend some years later, 21 Savage began writing music.
With lyrics like, “I’m in savage mode, cook a ni***a like a chef,” 21 Savage conveys the epitome of trap music.
21 Savage has four albums available for purchase on Apple Music. His most recent album, “Savage Mode,” has nine songs on it, including “X,” “Bad Guy” and “Mad High.”
Throughout his career, the rapper has worked with artists like Future, and producer Metro Boomin. On Tuesday, he released a music video for his song “No Heart” and was featured on the XXL 2016 Freshman list, which highlights up-and-coming rappers.
21 Savage has more than 950,000 followers on Instagram, 350,000 Twitter followers and 250,000 subscribers to his YouTube channel.
