Within the past year, LSU has added two Latino-based greek organizations to its roster of fraternities and sororities.
As part of the multiculturalism initiative, Sigma Lambda Beta and Lambda Theta Alpha are representing the Latino community that is present not only on campus but in the entire state of Louisiana. From protesting for women’s rights at the Capitol in Washington D.C. to social events at the UREC; the two sibling chapters are showing that they are a forced to be reckoned with and are here to say.
“Its really important for us to advocate for ourselves and other people’s rights or be a voice for those people so I feel like we have that great opportunity to start doing that. Not just because of this [the sorority] also just always,” founding member Alison Rocha said.
On Martin Luther King Day, Lambda Theta Alpha volunteered with the Walls Project in various activities like picking up trash in low-income neighborhoods, repainting the walls of The Walls Project Office Building and helping elementary students learn more about Martin Luther King King’s life and legacy.
The girls are grateful to have one another and are looking forward to accepting new members and what their sorority will accomplish in the future.
