Calling all adrenaline junkies—get your fix on the mountain biking trails right here in Baton Rouge.
The Baton Rouge Area Mountain Bike Association (BRAMBA) is a group of Red Stick locals united by a shared passion for mountain biking and a need for dedicated trails—and community—in the area. BRAMBA is a recognized nonprofit committed to growing the sport and building a strong, supportive network for local riders.
Founded in December 1992, BRAMBA has partnered with the Baton Rouge Recreation and Park Commission (BREC) to develop two official trails designed specifically for this adrenaline-fueled sport.
The Comite River/Kerry Stamey Trails cover 5.5 miles of rugged terrain along the Comite River and Cypress Bayou. Boulders and steep hills make this trail a dream for hardcore bikers. Small paths lead down to the riverbank, offering the perfect hidden spot for a picnic—featuring every outdoor enthusiast’s go-to snack: the classic (and slightly squished) peanut butter and jelly sandwich. If you know, you know.
With help from BREC, BRAMBA also secured 240 acres at Hooper Road Park to create the Hooper Road Bike Trails. This trail offers over five miles of wooded paths and cliffside routes—an ideal playground for bikers of all skill levels. Its variety of twists and turns cater to everyone from seasoned, Colorado-esque veterans to curious newbies looking for a new challenge. The forest setting provides a welcome escape from the city’s hustle and bustle.
Before BRAMBA, local mountain bikers had to travel at least two hours to Alexandria, LA, or Clear Spring, MS, to find trails suitable for their sport. As both the Baton Rouge population and interest in outdoor recreation grew, the need for local trails became undeniable—and BRAMBA was the answer.
Mountain biking has existed for decades but exploded in popularity after its inclusion in the 1996 Olympic Games. Riders sought more than just a workout—they wanted community. The sport offers a full-body challenge, from powering uphill with your quads to using your arms and core for balance, all while delivering an instant rush of adrenaline and euphoria.
In a society increasingly focused on mindfulness, mountain biking demands your full attention, keeping you grounded in the present moment—with every breath and every pedal.
BRAMBA champions outdoor living, health, and community. By combining all three, they’ve created an organization unlike anything else in Baton Rouge. From Thursday night group rides to an active Facebook group, this small but passionate community is thriving—driven by those who crave adventure.
