LSU Baseball swept West Virginia in the Super Regionals, 12-5, and punched a ticket to Omaha for their 20th appearance.
LSU’s electric at bats carried over into Game Two, with a 6-0 lead in the second inning. Derek Curiel was bumped back up to lead off hitter and was the first to score for the fighting tigers because the Mountaineers chose to sacrifice the run.
Steven Milam hit a near perfect line drive down right field for a double and three RBI. Jake Brown singled and brought Milam home, and Jared Jones did the same for Brown. (6-0, LSU)
The Ace Pitcher for West Virginia is responsible for all 6 runs. He threw 67 pitches in only two innings and only one strike out before being relieved by Chase Meyer.
The Mountaineers had some fun in the bottom of the fourth and contradicted their “blue collar way.” Sam White and Ben Lumsden hit a home run; Lumsden tacked on an RBI. Early in the fifth White smashes another ball, but this time to right field and Armani Guzman scored making it a two run game. (6-4, LSU)
After five innings and 104 pitches, Anthony Eyanson was relieved by Cooper Williams. Eyanson ended the night with four strike outs, three walks and four runs.
In the top of the seventh, Stanfield hit 2 RBI single, Luis Hernandez and Daniel Dickinson scored. Curiel throws up another run off a throwing error. Steven Milam hit an RBI double. The Tigers did not stop there, Jake Brown went on to hit a home run and brought Milam home with him. (12-4, LSU)
Next up, LSU will travel to Omaha and play Arkansas in the double-elimination College World Series. Note LSU upset Arkansas at home winning two out of three games, the second being a mercy rule (13-3, LSU).
