On October 1, the U.S. Government officially shut down after Congress failed to reach a budget agreement on Monday during a meeting.
Social Security will not be affected by the shutdown, but non-essential government employees will be discharged from their jobs, while others will be working without pay until after the shutdown.
It is expected that the Trump administration will request that offices fully fire some suspended employees, who will not return to work until a budget is passed. This is part of the Trump administration’s goal in reducing the size of the federal government.
LSU students are affected by this situation, with difficulty traveling in the future, as workers will not be paid during that shutdown.
LSU’s Law Professor, Del Wright Jr, shares how students could possibly be affected during this shutdown.
“There could be changes to how easily it is to travel in the country because [of] TSA agents not getting paid or Air Traffic Control agents not getting paid. [Even though] they still have to come to work, they are less likely to put in as much time as they otherwise would,” Wright said.
This is a developing story.
