Sources say Lane Kiffin will bring over quite a few members from his staff at Ole Miss. Offensive Coordinator Charlie Weis Jr, strength and conditioning coach Nick Savage and receivers coach George McDonald are some of the potential coach names.
But where does this leave Interim Head Coach Frank Wilson? Kiffin has confirmed that Wilson will lead the team during the Tigers’ bowl game, but there was no mention of his role after.
Not only does Wilson have a strong connection and influence on the players, but he also has several ties to New Orleans high schools. These connections are especially important when it comes to in-state tuition.
Prior to Kiffin’s official hiring, Wilson said that he wants to remain at LSU, if possible.
“As long as LSU will have be; I’d love to be a part of what we do here,” Wilson said.
As far as the defensive staff, Kiffin has shown interest in retaining LSU Defensive Coordinator Blake Baker. However, sources revealed that Baker has recently met with his alma mater, Tulane, about the head coach opening since Jon Sumrall’s move to Florida.
