LSU’s heading back to this bowl game for the third time in six years

LSU football will play in the Texas Bowl for its final game of the 2025 season, the team announced Sunday.

Held in NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas, the Texas Bowl is where LSU has gone for postseason play in three of the last six seasons.

LSU will face Houston on Dec. 27.

Houston was ranked No. 21 in the country in the final College Football Playoff rankings Sunday. The Cougars, led by former Tulane head coach Willie Fritz, finished the regular season 9-3.

Frank Wilson, the interim head coach after LSU fired Brian Kelly and formerly the running backs coach, will coach the Tigers in the bowl game. Newly-named head coach Lane Kiffin confirmed as much at his introductory press conference on Monday.

Last season, LSU went to the Texas Bowl and ended up beating Baylor 44-31.

In 2021, the Tigers faced Kansas State with a roster ravaged by injury, opt-outs and transfers after head coach Ed Orgeron had been fired. LSU started a former wide receiver, Jontre Kirklin, at quarterback, and eventually lost the game 42-20.
