There are many bakers in the Baton Rouge area who have unique businesses but have you ever seen someone do everything from their home kitchen?
Well the owner of Mid City Bakery, Kimberly Fansler, does and she does it well, despite the challenges that comes with running a business from your home.
“Challenging yeah, probably being pulled in like twenty five different directions, not having staff yet, is a little bit difficult cause I can’t delegate as much,” Fansler said.
She serves everything from brownies, cookies, cupcakes, muffins, etc. Her biggest hit would have to be her oatmeal pie. She described it as a knock off ‘Little Debbie’ but people like hers a little bit more.
“I would have to say our biggest hit would be our oatmeal pies. People have said it ruined Little Debbie’s version for them.”
Her treats are not the only thing that is sweet. She even took home the Best of 225 Cottage Bakery Award this year and it was the first award handout ever.
“There’s so many talented people that were nominated. Being the first to win the Cottage Bakery Category is also really exciting,” Fansler said. “It was the inaugural year of that category”
She says her award is literally the most awarding thing she has earned but her goals do not end there. Her long-term goal is to help build a small community and help others who share the same passion she has.
“We wanted to do this thing where hobby bakers , professional bakers, anybody that loves baking, we wanted to create a community that was unpretentious, you can ask questions , people who want to start their business, we would love to offer advice” Fansler said.
So, whether you are a fan of sweet treats or not, you have to admit that doing something as big as this is mostly challenging but it is really sweet at the same time.
