Following the Tigers loss against the Sooners 4-3, after a disappointing 8th inning, Chris Stanfield spoke to the media. In the bottom of the 5th, LSU’s left fielder scored a home run that would give the Tigers the lead, 3-1. Stanfield explained how the Sooners pitcher gave him the opportunity to score.
“I’ve been swinging at some lower pitches, and I think that’s why I was hitting grounders. So getting to pitch at the right height was the key to that at-bat. I am thankful that I could put a swing on it.”
With the consistent success of the program in recent years, Stanfield understands how teams are motivated to play against them.
“I mean, we’re at LSU and everyone has to play up to play us. You know that’s what it feels like, at least playing for LSU.”
Despite falling short to the Sooners, Stanfield has confidence in his team and knows what they need to work on as they progress throughout the season.
“I think for this team, it is just about running quality at bat. You know, 3 in a row is the thing that we take pride in from an offensive side point, and just, you know, stacking and putting pressure on pitchers, like I said. You know I can vividly remember a lot of innings where we scored like 5 or 6 runs in the first.”
Regardless of outside criticism, the Tigers understand that there is plenty to play for as SEC play has just started.
“You know, I really think we’re just going to be fine. It’s not as bad as it seems. We just have to play better, and we’ve got some time to do it, so just lock in and keep moving forward.”
The Tigers will face Louisiana Tech at Alex Box Stadium on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.
