When I first bought “Falling Kingdoms” by Morgan Rhodes, I didn’t think much of it. It looked good, but I wasn’t expecting anything extraordinary. I was wrong. This series is similar to “Game of Thrones,” and is every bit as mind capturing as it as well.
There are three kingdoms where there has been peace for centuries. That doesn’t mean there isn’t unrest or hatred among the kingdoms. The kingdoms are constantly trying to be the most powerful, therefore messing up people’s lives in the process.
These kingdoms have forgotten that certain magic exist. Important magic that could change the world they live in. Magic so big, it was forgotten for a reason — until now.
There is forbidden love, betrayals, murders, bargains and battles. Sound familiar? The main four characters’ lives will become intertwined forever.
Cleo is a princess of the kingdom everyone hates. She is beautiful, rich and ignorant. Something tragic happens in her young life, and she must go on a journey into lands where she is considered an enemy. She fights for the ones she loves, her country and her life.
Jonas’ family is subject to a horrible injustice that sets him into a vengeful rage. He lives in the most impoverished country, and he becomes a part of the rebel force to bring about a revolution. His involvement with Cleo is not a good one, but it looks promising in the sequels.
Lucis is a princess raised in a country that is in between the first two mentioned. Her family is cool and calculating. Little does she know that she is adopted. She discovers secrets about her real family and her past that will help bring about the downfall of a certain kingdom and family.
Then there is Magnus. He is the firstborn son of the royal family Lucia is a part of. He was born for fighting and to conquer everything that stands in his way. He also finds himself in love with a person he shouldn’t be in love with. Or can he?
There are strong parallels between this series and “Game of Thrones,” and I can’t get enough of it. I read this book in a day, and I feel like I’m dying until the sequel comes out. What kingdoms will be destroyed? Which ones will prevail? Who will live, and who will die fighting? Check this book out!
