Students gathered Tuesday and Wednesday in the Royal Cotillion Ballroom to learn information about the University’s study abroad program.
The Study Abroad Fair gives students the opportunity to learn how to study in the United Kingdom, France, Spain, China and other countries around the world for a semester or more. For the first time in the University’s study abroad program, there will be a summer abroad program on six continents starting in the summer of 2014.
“This is an opportunity you will pretty much never ever have again,” said Daniel Novak, associate professor of English and program director for the LSU in London and Edinburgh program.
Liberal arts senior Alex Mouhot described his study abroad experience last summer as one he will remember vividly for the rest of his life.
“I had the most fun I’ve ever had in settings that were culturally enriching to the say the least, “ said Mohout. “I loved every second of it.”
Having students live in the foreign country that they are learning about is the best feature of studying abroad, Novak said.
“I recommend a study abroad program for anyone who wants to take that step beyond learning into truly experiencing,” said Mouhot.
Novak also said studying abroad is an opportunity to form strong bonds with fellow students in the program.
“[Students] are still together with their old groups, they have reunions, they are friends for life, it changes their life, so it is really worth doing for all students,” Novak said.
Mouhot said after studying abroad, students should have a better idea of how many opportunities there are all across the globe.
“Too many students these days allow their futures to be pigeon-holed by their lack of knowledge and experience,” said Mouhot. “After putting yourself out there and basking in a place truly different, you find your eyes to be open to endless other opportunities.”
