On Aug. 4, 2013 in Houston, Texas all kinds of music lovers came out to celebrate the last stop on the Vans Warped Tour. This year, Vans Warped Tour decided to make the theme “Best Day Ever” and it did not disappoint. It was a hot, long day but that did not hinder the fans from waiting hours before the gates opened and staying until the last note was played by August Burns Red. Some of the other bands that performed at the Houston stop were Go Radio, Allstar Weekend, The Wonder Years, Never Shout Never, Bowling for Soup and Motion City Soundtrack.
The punk aspect of Vans Warped Tour was present with the apparel, attitude and love for the music that the fans share. The Wonder Years pleased their pop-punk fans with hits such as “Don’t Let Me Cave In” and “Logan Circle”. After their set, Motion City Soundtrack took over the stage and had the crowd singing along to “The Future Freaks Me Out”. The crowd was so loud it was hard to hear Justin Pierre singing the words. Bowling for Soup also performed creating nostalgia for most fans when they opened with “Girl All the Bad Guys Want”. The best part about Vans Warped Tour is those three bands performed back to back on just one of the nine stages set up.
One thing fans look forward to when they go to Vans Warped Tour is the chance to get up close with their favorite bands performing at each location. Most bands have meet and greet times when fans can get their merchandise signed, give their favorite artist high fives and take pictures with the bands. Before Motion City Soundtrack took the stage I had a chance to talk with lead singer Justin Pierre about the bands past and future. You can listen to the full interview on the SoundCloud link.
Another cool thing about Vans Warped Tour is that non-profits have a place to reach out to a new audience. Some of the non-profits at the Houston stop included peta2, To Write Love on Her Arms and Keep A Breast Foundation who are famous for their “I (heart) Boobies!” bracelets. Another feature included this year was the hydration station where fans can refill their water bottles for free so they can stay energized all day. All together, these aspects of Vans Warped Tour make the fans unique and the bands pumped up which creates the perfect combination for the “Best Day Ever”.
