Clayton Tufts and Taylor Lambert are running for the President and Vice President of our student body and they have some ideas to change LSU.
Their campaign is called “The Next Step.” Tufts, the Presidential candidate, explains that they, “Want to take the Next Step to a better LSU.”
Tufts, a junior majoring in Political Science, explains that their campaign is based on two main pillars: diversity and service. He states that they, “Want to make sure that there’s new faces, new voices in student government that provide a new perspective.”
Lambert, a junior majoring in Mass Communication with a concentration in advertising, states that service is what Student Government is all about. She says that she and Clay want to put themselves up for service to help the students.
Tufts and Clay do have a few initiatives that would help the University take that step, should they be elected.
The first initiative is the “Renew the Library Fund.” Tufts expresses his belief that a research University such as LSU should have a more up-to-date library for students to use. This initiative would be a fund started by Student Government, the University, the Alumni Association and LSU Foundations to ensure that students can have better resources in the library.
They also want to create an App that would allow students to schedule their tests from their phones explains Lambert. Lambert states that this will make it easier for students to schedule and reschedule tests. In addition to the app, Tufts and Lambert want to create parking spaces near the testing center to make it easier and less stressful for students to get to their exams.
Their final initiative revolves around sports. They would like to implement paperless ticketing by creating a sports card that would keep track of tickets and priority points. Tufts explains that they want to revamp the student line system, so that getting into football games is less stressful. He continues, stating that they also want to set up an SEC ticket exchange program that would allow students to trade tickets with students from other schools.
The most important part of their campaign is the students. Lambert explains that this election, “Really isn’t about Clay and I, It’s not about us. It’s all about the students. That’s what this organization is about. We are giving ourselves up for the service of the students, and I think that’s a really powerful and special message.”
They state that they want to be there for every student and every student organization. They want to help organizations with any problems they may encounter and urge students to see them as a resource.
Tufts had this message for LSU students: “We’re your support system. Any help you need, Student Government needs to be there for every student interest and for every student organization.”
Tufts and Clayton will be in Free Speech Alley all week and urge students to come ask them questions.
