University students can expect more options when it comes to living off campus later in the year. Two new apartment complexes are currently in the works, and both are set to open in the coming years.
Construction for the yet-to-be-named apartments on the corner of Burbank and Parker began in December 2013 and is set to be completed before school starts in August 2015, said Sterling University Housing president Brian Dinerstein.
The new addition will accommodate up to 695 people throughout its three buildings and offers an array of new and improved residential features.
Dinerstein said the addition will have the look and feel of a modern, edgy hotel and will be geared toward college students. Included in the construction plans are a common area for residents, rooms for studying, a gym and a pool with a lazy river.
“This is going to be the nicest project in the city,” Dinerstein said.
The new apartments are located less than a mile and a half from campus on Burbank Drive, making it a walkable option to and from campus and to nearby restaurants and retailers.
Also in construction is a new apartment complex located on the corner of Ben Hur Road and Burbank Drive. The Exchange is constructing 299 new units to create a total of 898 bedrooms with the first 298 bedrooms opening in the fall of 2014. The construction for the remaining 700 bedrooms is set to be complete in 2015, said a representative at the Exchange.
Potential residents will have the option of living in a one-bedroom apartment or living with up to three roommates. The Exchange also has four-bedroom townhouses available for lease.
Prices for leasing at the Exchange range from $975 a month for a one-bedroom apartment to $630 per room per month for a four-bedroom apartment.
Residents will also be able to enjoy amenities such as a fitness center, a cyber-lounge, tanning beds and study rooms.
These constrution projects follow the announcement of other apartment complexes being built around the LSU campus expected to open around the same time, like The Standard at Baton Rouge on Alaska Street near West Campus Apartments.
